Frequently Asked Questions

How does self storage work?

Self storage lets you rent a secure, clean space for your belongings for as long as you need. To get started, select a unit size, sign a rental agreement, move your items into the unit, and secure it with a lock. Hiawassee Self Storage offers state-of-the-art facilities, easy online reservations, month-to-month leases, and climate-controlled units, making it simple and secure to store personal items, business inventory, or gear for your next adventure.

How do I know what size I need?

Choosing the right storage unit depends on what you plan to store. We offer 10 x 10 and 10 x 20 size units. Ideal for storing boxes, personal items, small furniture, or outdoor gear. A 10x10 unit can typically hold the contents of a one-bedroom home. The 10 x 20 unit can accommodate items from a large home, outdoor equipment, seasonal items, or business inventory.

What can I store in the unit?

You can store a wide variety of items in a storage unit, including household furniture, seasonal décor, sports gear, and business inventory. Many people also use storage units for personal documents, family heirlooms, and outdoor equipment. For sensitive items such as electronics, artwork, or seasonal clothing, climate-controlled units offer extra protection. Storage units provide a clean, secure, and convenient way to keep your belongings safe and organized.

What can't I store in a storage unit?

You may NOT store vehicles, perishable foods, plants, tires, combustible, flammable, hazardous, or toxic materials in a storage unit for safety and legal reasons. Do not store anything that emits fumes or a strong odor. If you have an item or situation you're unsure about, please get in touch with Hiawassee Self Storage for clarification.

Can I Sleep in the storage unit?

No. Storage units are not designed for people or animals to live in, and staying overnight or using a unit as a residence is not permitted. You may visit your unit during access hours, but it cannot be used as a living space.

Is there a minimum stay requirement?

Hiawassee Self Storage offers month-to-month leases, so there’s no minimum stay requirement and no long-term commitment. Life changes fast, and we’re here to give you the flexibility to store for exactly as long as you need.

When can I access my storage unit?

Storage units are accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year giving you the flexibility to visit whenever you need.

Do I need my own lock?

Yes, you need your own lock to secure your storage unit. Using a personal lock ensures that only you have access to your belongings. We recommend a heavy duty disc lock, you may find online or at local retailers.

How can I make a payment?

Payments can be processed by mail, in person or through our website to pay your bill at any time. You may also arrange to have your payment automatically deducted from your credit card. Inquire with us about getting your account setup on monthly autopay.

Do you require insurance on my storage unit?

Yes, however, you are not required to purchase insurance for your storage unit through Hiawassee Self Storage. If you already have a homeowner's or renter's policy that covers the items stored there, be sure to check your policy or contact your insurance provider to confirm. And, if you plan to provide your own coverage, please submit a copy of your current certificate of insurance or declarations page for our records. If you don't have a policy or aren't sure what it covers, affordable tenant insurance is available for purchase when you sign your lease for added convenience and peace of mind.

What happens if I miss a payment?

Missing a payment may result in a late fee. Rent is due on the same day each month based on your move-in date. Late fees are automatically applied after 7 days late.
